Auto mechanics is not an easy field within which to succeed without proper education. Today's mechanic must possess the skills and knowledge to diagnose and repair more complicated equipment. A technical education, once a luxury, is now a necessity for the well-trained mechanic. Simply knowing how to change oil and clean windshields won't do.
Job Placement
- Independent Garages
- Chain Stores
- Dealerships
Auto mechanics instruction is one of the original technical programs at Wallace State. The success and growth through the years is due to an excellent job placement record. The job is not finished until the student is working in the field. Most graduates find good jobs within driving distance of their home.
As engines become more technically advanced, the demand for experienced mechanics with an interest in the new technologies, especially in electronics, will increase even more dramatically.
Wallace State Auto Mechanics students get practical, hands-on experience with:
Automotive air conditioning
- Engine lubrication systems
- Wheel bearings, tires and wheels, wheel balancing, suspension systems, steering systems and wheel alignment
- Engine condition evaluation, engine removal, engine disassembly, valve train and cylinder head reconditioning
- Engine crankshafts, bearings, oil pumps, cylinder and piston reconditioning, engine reassembly and engine installation
- Battery service, chassis wiring, starting, ignition and charging systems, and electrical theory
- Principals of electricity and magnetism and a study of automotive electrical systems
