Lady Lions' Softball Sweeps Alabama Southern

HANCEVILLE, Ala.- The Wallace State-Hanceville softball team advanced to
43-8 overall after their two game sweep of the Alabama Southern Eagles
on Friday. The Lady Lions took the games by scores of 8-0 and 9-1
respectively.

Wallace State has come through a rough section in their schedule which
led to several losses. "We lost focus. Teams go through slumps, and we
were having one," Wallace State softball head coach Jayne Clem said.
"I'm just glad we had it then instead of at the end of the season. We
knew we just had to play better."

The Lady Lions took their own advice and defeated the Eagles in five
innings in the first game, and Brooke Allgood was the winning pitcher.
She allowed only one hit after facing 15 batters.

Sarah Wilson went 1-for-1 at the plate with a triple, two runs and an
RBI while Allgood was 2-of-3 with three RBIs, a double and a single.
Lindsey McDaniel had two RBIs, a single and scored one run in her at
bats. Jena Franks recorded another RBI and a single.

In the second game, Jennifer Sexton brought home the game for Wallace in
six innings. She faced 23 while allowing three hits and striking out
four.

Hannah Strength swung well for the Lady Lions in the first game, going
3-for-4 with a triple, double, single and two runs. Delaina Franklin
added two runs while Courtney Underwood was 2-for-4 at the plate with
two doubles and two RBIs. Ashley Pratt hit a single and scored a run
while getting two RBIs. Dandi Ammons was 3-for-3 with three singles, an
RBI and a run scored. Sexton scored a run and had one RBI, and Wilson
doubled and recorded another RBI.

"We talked about getting focused for today's games. We won our two
before today, and we wanted to continue to win. We got focused and we
were ready to go," Clem said. "We're a young team and they're still
trying to figure out the college game. They've learned to leave
everything outside and focus on the game."

Wallace will play its next two games on Sunday at Gadsden State. "Those
will be two big games. They are a conference team and they are a good
team. These wins helped us get some confidence, and I think we're ready
to play."
