Wallace State Golf Team Finishes Runner-Up in State Tournament with
Three Top 10 Finishes

SCOTTSBORO, Ala.--The Wallace State-Hanceville golf team finished
runner-up at the NJCAA Region 22 State Championship at Goosepond Golf
Course in Scottsboro last week. Three Wallace State golfers finished
among the top ten in the event.



"With the exception of the first round, we did really well," Wallace
State golf coach Dan York said. "I think we put too much pressure on
ourselves in the first round to do well, and when we made some bad
shots, we pressed even harder and it snowballed into a bad round for
us."



Josh Butler came in fourth place overall at the tournament. He shot
rounds of 77-74-73 and finished only six strokes behind the leader. John
Visconti took the seventh place spot after turning in rounds of
81-76-71. He finished the third round with the day's low round.

The third top ten finisher for Wallace State was Zack Lynch, who took
10th place with rounds of 83-76-74. 

Jace Windom finished 12th with rounds of 83-72-77, and Jonathon Gunnels
took 14th as he shot rounds of 83-71-79. Gunnels' second round was also
the low round of the day.



"We calmed down after the first round and then shot two exceptional
rounds to end the tournament. I was very pleased with our play after the
first round. We came away with a good ending to the tournament, and
after a good week of practice, I think we can perform well at district."



The Lions will head to the district competition in Cocoa Beach next
week. If Wallace finishes in the top three of the district competition,
they will be eligible for the national competition in May.
