Lions' Baseball Wins Again at Home versus Cleveland State

HANCEVILLE, Ala.- The Wallace State-Hanceville baseball team got its
fifth win in a row with a defeat of Cleveland State Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions took the game 10-7 and advanced to 32-9 overall.

Wallace State was led by Jonathan Lopez (3-1) as he threw eight strike
outs during his win on the mound. He faced eighteen batters and gave up
only four hits and one run.

Johnathan Lopez earned the win for the Lions against Cleveland
State on Tuesday.

"The story of the game was Lopez's pitching. He did a good job and
helped us beat a very good team," Lions baseball head coach Randy Putman
said. "It's is all about our pitchers now. We've improve on offense and
defense, and now we're looking for some good games from our pitchers.
Just over our last few games, Lopez and Lawrence have done very well out
of the bullpen."

Chase McCain came out swinging for Wallace, and went 3-for-3 at the
plate. He hit a double, two singles, scored two runs and had one RBI.
Damien Mazzetti was 2-of-3 with three runs scored, two doubles and two
RBIs, while Jono Waugh had three RBIs, a double and a single in his four
at bats.

Chris Hoffer had a single, scored two runs and added another RBI, and
Jake Elmore and Logan Eads each had a hit. Elmore also scored a run
while Eads recorded an RBI. Jorge Williams hit a single and had a RBI
after going 1-for-1, and Rich Porohnavi swung for a single and added a
RBI. Chaise Oliver contributed a single and scored a run.

Putman said, "We're really beginning to play with confidence again. We
lost a few tough games during the middle of the schedule, but now we're
beginning to win again. The boys are going to have to keep pace with the
other teams bunched up with us in the conference. The team has to stay
focused. It's going to be a fight the last nine games."

The Lions will be on the road for their next six games. They will play a
three-game series against Marion Military and Gadsden State before
coming home for their final three games against Calhoun.
