A Southern Showcase

Hanceville, Ala.--The work of talented local artists was on display last
week during the Juried Art Competition and Exhibition held in the James
C. Bailey Center foyer. The exhibition featured the "Southern Voices"
theme as part of Cultural Arts Week 2007. Awards were presented on April
14.

In addition to the more than 95 entries from the community, a student
art show was also on display, showcasing material from drawing,
sculpture, ceramic pottery and visual communications courses at Wallace
State.

"Artworks were primarily judged on technical ability and the overall
visual expressiveness of the work," said Adrian Scott, Wallace State Art
Department director.

"This year's art exhibition was another unqualified success and joyous
showcase of the wealth of creative abilities the students and citizens
of the Wallace State community have to offer," said Scott.

Cultural Arts Week was organized by the Cultural Arts Week Committee and
faculty and staff in the art, English, Spanish, speech and theater
departments.

Events earlier in the week included A Night of Song presented by the
Music Department with Cheryl Parrish and Juli Wood, vocalists, and Dr.
Joey Martin, accompanist; a Vocal Master Class for college vocal
students in the Music Department Recital Hall, an Open Rehearsal with
the Wallace State Concert Choir and Dr. Joey Martin in the Recital Hall;
the classic "whodunit" "Clue" presented by the Wallace State Drama
Department, storytelling with Kathryn Tucker Windham presented by the
English department; Swing into Spring, an evening of food and dance to
the Big Band sound of the WSCC Jazz Show Band in the Banquet Hall; and a
Spring Tour Bon Voyage Concert by the WSCC Concert Choir in the Music
Department Recital Hall.
