Lions' Baseball Extends Winning Streak against Marion



HANCEVILLE, Ala.- The Wallace State-Hanceville baseball team made it
eighth wins in a row with a sweep of Marion Military Institute on
Saturday. The Lions took the first game of the doubleheader 13-3 and won
the second game 12-3.



Derek Holland (7-2) picked up the win on the mound for Wallace in the
first game as he struck out eight in five innings. He gave up only four
hits and one run.



Jono Waugh was 2-for-4 after hitting a home run to begin the game for
the Lions. He scored two runs and hit a single as well. Zelous Wheeler
hit another home run for the Lions and recorded three RBIs and scored
two runs. Rich Poronhavi swung for a triple and an RBI while Jake Elmore
went 2-for-4 at the plate after scoring two runs, hitting two singles
and stealing two bases.



Chaise Oliver went 2-of-3 with another stolen base, two singles and an
RBI, and Chase McCain had a two run double after going 1-of-3. He also
scored a run. Jorge Williams also went 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Chris
Hoffer hit another single for Wallace and added an RBI, while Bill Henke
was 1-for-2 with a single and a run scored.



Craig Kimbrell (7-0) was the starting pitcher for the Lions in the
second game. He earned the win after pitching five innings and striking
out seven.

Jake Elmore, with a batting average of .457, went 5-for-7 at bat against MMI on Saturday.


Elmore had a busy day at the plate for Wallace after going 3-for-3 with
two singles, a double, four runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases.
Waugh stole another base and scored twice while hitting a single and
grabbing an RBI.



Chase McCain hit a three-run home run, while Williams added a single.
Chris Hoffer scored and hit another single, while Henke scored two runs.



The Lions (35-9, 19-5 ACCC) will head to Gadsden State next for a three
game series on April 27 and 28. The will end the regular season at home
against Calhoun on May 4 and 5.
