Wallace State Cheerleaders Become SEC Rivals

Hanceville, Ala.-- Five Wallace State Community College cheerleaders
will soon be joining the ranks at Southeastern Conference rivals the
University of Alabama and University of Tennessee.

Josh Adkins of Gardendale and Wesley Dobbs of Decatur made the junior
varsity squad at the University of Alabama. Brooke Scott of Hayden will
be cheering on the varsity squad.

Lauren Ashbaugh of Cullman and Brandon Leming of Winchester, Tenn. will
be cheering for the Volunteers at the University of Tennessee.

"I'm nervous and excited to cheer at ball games in front of thousands of
people," said Scott.

Ashbaugh is also excited to cheer at football games. "The atmosphere of
the games is so amazing," she said.

All of the cheerleaders credit Wallace State cheerleader coach Rob
Metcalf with their success.

"I couldn't have cheered at a university straight from high school,"
said Ashbaugh. "Rob really prepared me for this opportunity."

"Being a Wallace State cheerleader taught me about the collegiate
experience and what it takes to compete on a national level," said
Leming.

The Wallace State Cheerleaders took second place at the 2007 UCA
National College Cheerleading and Dance Team Championship in Orlando,
Fla. In the last four years, Wallace State has won the event twice and
finished runner-up twice.
