Lions Golf Team Finishes Fourth at Districts

ROCKLEDGE, Fla.- The Wallace State-Hanceville golf team took fourth
place at the NJCAA Division I District V Championship this week.
Freshman, Jace Windom was also selected to the All-District team at the
tournament.

Wallace State golfer Jace Windom made the All-District Team.

"I was disappointed with our finish," Wallace State golf head coach Dan
York said. "We made some mistakes again in the first round and that
really put us behind. We had good second and third rounds but the first
round put us too far behind. Our goal was to make it to nationals, and
since we didn't accomplish that goal, we weren't satisfied with our
finish."

Wallace finished fourth in the eight team tournament, only five strokes
behind the third place team. The top three teams advanced to the
national competition.

Windom finished in fourth place overall out of 40 people. The top five
finishers at district are selected for the All-District team, and Windom
was chosen for Wallace. Windom finished with rounds of 73-73-71 and a
final score of 217. His finish left him only one stroke behind third
place.

York said, "I was happy with Jace's performance. He did a great job in
order to be selected to the All-District team."

Jonathon Gunnels finished in a tie for 11th place after shooting rounds
of 79-73-73 and a final score of 225. Zack Lynch finished in 18th place
with rounds of 75-75-79 for a total of 229, and John Visconti swung for
a 21st place finish with a total of 232 after rounds of 82-78-72. Josh
Butler shot three rounds of 81-80-76 for a final of 237 and a placing of
31st.

Wallace likely ended its season at the tournament. York said there is a
small chance they could still go to nationals.

"I was happy with how our guys came together. We had some rough
tournaments and finished last at one back in February. They didn't get
discouraged though and worked hard to come back and win our event in
Cullman. They really got some confidence in each other and worked hard
to improve. They believed in themselves."

Coach York will begin recruiting and preparing the team to begin
practicing again in the fall.
