Wallace Signs 2007 National Power Lifting Champion
HANCEVILLE, Ala.-- To say Wallace State-Hanceville track coach Stan Narewski was excited when he signed Lincoln High School senior Meagan Chappell as his track manager would be an understatement. Signing Chappell also meant he signed a multi-record holding, 2007 National Power Lifting women's teenage national champion.
"It was a good day at the office to say the least," Narewski said.
Though Chappell has been lifting for only about two years, she has amassed quite an assortment of records. She is the state record holder in Alabama in the bench press, squat, dead lift and overall total lift in the teenage and women's division. She is the only girl to hold the overall championship.
Meagan Chappell sets the American Record of 380.50lbs in the dead lift.
In addition to her eight Alabama records, she is the record holder in the same events in Mississippi and Georgia. She was also a recipient of the Iron Man Award, and she is a member of Team USA.
Jason Grissom, Chappell's coach says, "Meagan is a gifted athlete with a work ethic second to none. She is not only strong physically but spiritually as well. She is a driven and determined young woman who is capable of overcoming obstacles with ease. Meagan has a great story to tell but an even greater heart."
Chappell will be enrolled at Wallace this fall. She will be on scholarship as the track manager and will assist with the strength program as she continues her own training.
