Wallace State Honors Adjunct Faculty

Hanceville, AL--Wallace State Community College in Hanceville recently
held an Educators of Excellence reception and professional development
event for adjunct faculty members.

"Adjunct faculty are vital to everything we do," said Wallace State
president Dr. Vicki Hawsey. "We are blessed to have such quality and
consistence among the adjunct faculty ranks at Wallace State."

"I've been an adjunct faculty member before," said Hawsey. "I know from
experience how difficult it is and that you do it simply because you
love to teach."

Attendees were treated to a professional development session on Learning
Styles taught by Laura Smallwood. Learning Styles are different
approaches or ways of learning and include visual learning, auditory
learning and kinesthetic learning.

"Your learning style is as unique as your fingerprint," said Smallwood.
"By knowing how you learn, you can be more successful academically."

Smallwood said that teachers tend to teach according to their own
learning style. "You need to be aware that there are all types of
learners in your classroom, so providing a variety of learning avenues
is important," said Smallwood.
