Wallace State Finishes Regular Season with Split with Calhoun
HANCEVILLE, Ala.-The Wallace State-Hanceville baseball team wrapped up regular season play with a split against Calhoun on Saturday. The Lions won the first game of the conference series on Friday 10-2.

Zelous Wheeler continued to deliver for the Lions at bat in the opening half of the doubleheader. His 3-for-4 performance included a run and a RBI. Chaise Oliver went 2-for-3. Jake Elmore had a hit, two runs, a RBI and a stolen base in three times at bat.

Chase McCain doubled and scored a run. Chris Hoffer also doubled and drove one in. Damien Mazzetti delivered two RBIs. Bill Henke had a hit. Rich Porohnavi scored.

Sophomore starting pitcher Jamie Manning (7-2) threw six innings. He allowed three runs on five hits, struck out three and walked five. Winning pitcher Johnathan Lopez (4-1) pitched the final three innings with one hit and two strikeouts.
 Lions sophomore pitcher Jamie Manning (7-2) played in his final game at James C. Bailey Stadium on Saturday. The Lions ended their regular season with a conference series against Calhoun on Saturday and will head to the ACCC Tournament next weekend.

The Lions struggled in the final game and managed three hits while rotating through five pitchers.
Lopez (now 4-2) returned to the mound in the second game. It looked as though he might pick up his second win of the day but, just when he was looking comfortable, a sixth inning two-run double by Dan Ingrahm put Calhoun ahead and instead of a win he was saddled with the loss.

Craig Kimbrel (8-0) started for the Lions and pitched two and one-third innings during which he gave up three runs. Alan Lawrence (3-1), Hoffer (3-0) and Wheeler (0-0) also pitched.
At bat for the Lions, Wheeler doubled and scored in three times up. A hit by Mazzetti, who went 1-for-2, drove in Wheeler. Josh McGinnis connected for a hit in his one at bat. Hoffer and Henke scored runs.
Coming Up
Wallace State (39-10, 23-6 ACCC) will head to the Alabama Community College Conference Tournament next weekend as the defending champion of the back-to-back years. The tournament will be held in Dothan May 12-17.

Coach Randy Putman will be looking for his 700th win at the tournament. He's currently four games away. But the Lions won't be satisfied with three wins. They'll be looking for the championship and a berth in the 2007 JUCO World Series.
The Lions have made six trips the World Series where they have finished third three times, including each of the last two years.
