Lions Last Home Stand Starts Off Right
HANCEVILLE, Ala.-The Wallace State-Hanceville baseball team defeated Calhoun Community College 10-2 on Friday in the first game of the season's final conference series that continues today.
A two-run homerun by Zelous Wheeler, his 10th of the season, and a perfect 5-for-5 performance by Chaise Oliver highlighted the Lions performance at bat. Wheeler went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Oliver had a double and four singles, two runs and two RBIs.
 Damien Mazzetti, who is tied with Zelous Wheeler with 10 home runs this season, had two hits on Friday.
 Jono Waugh rounds third base after stealing second. He goes on to score.
Jono Waugh was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs. Jake Elmore also went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Bill Henke had two doubles in four at bats. Damien Mazzetti connected for two hits and scored a run in five times up.
Chase McCain's 1-for-3 included a double, RBI and a run. Logan Eads went 1-for-4.
 Derek Holland on the mound against Calhoun. He sports a 9-2 record for Wallace State this year.
Derek Holland (9-2) controlled the Lions defense from the mound. In seven innings of work he struck out seven batters while allowing just one run, four hits and one walk. Austin Lucas (2-1) closed the game by pitching two innings with one run, three hits and one strike out.
Wallace State (39-9, 23-5 ACCC) will be back in action against Calhoun on Saturday with a double header that begins at 3 p.m. Games will be held at Wallace State's James C. Bailey Stadium.
