Wallace State Students Receive Scholarships, Awards
HANCEVILLE, AL-Students at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville were recognized for their achievements at the college's recent Awards Night Ceremony. Awards for campus leadership, academic achievement, and division honors were among those presented at the ceremony. Students receiving transfer scholarships to universities were recognized by representatives from those institutions.
"At Wallace State, we strive for excellence in all that we do, and we have outstanding students. They represent a diverse group of talents, hopes and dreams," said Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Hawsey.
She told award recipients, "You are distinctively different. You've set yourself apart. This is a campus committed to service, and you've chosen to use the talents you've been blessed with to enrich your own lives and the lives of others."
Hawsey presented the night's highest award-The Star Achiever Award-to Dustin Hampton of Vinemont. This award is presented to the student who most completely demonstrates academic excellence, service to the college and community, leadership, courage, perseverance, and all those qualities that make a student well rounded.
Hampton is the vice-president of the Wallace State Student Government Association, a Wallace State Ambassador, member of Who's Who and the All-Alabama Academic Team, and recipient of the Wallace State Electronics program award. He is Student Leadership Institute alumnus, participant in SkillsUSA, mentor, and regular contributor to campus events and service projects.
"Dustin's work ethic and the positive impression he makes on other students sets him apart," said Hawsey. "He quietly endured the loss of his mother last year while continuing to demonstrate his own brand of humble leadership here at Wallace."
