Wallace State Track Members Receive Awards



HANCEVILLE, Ala.- Wallace State-Hanceville Dean of Students Tomesa Smith
recently presented certificates to five track members singled out by
Coach Stan Narewski for their accomplishments this season.



Amy Rucker - Dr. Tomesa Smith, Dean of Students at Wallace
State, presents the Women's Most Valuable Cross Country Athlete Award to
Amy Rucker of Jasper.


Tasheilra Jones - Dr. Tomesa Smith, Dean of Students at Wallace
State, presents the Women's Most Valuable Indoor Track Athlete Award to
Tasheilra Jones of Wildwood, Fla.


Amy Rucker, a cross country runner from Jasper, received the Women's
Most Valuable Cross Country Athlete award. Her best 5K time this year
was 21 minutes. She plans to break 18 minutes next season. Indoor track
runner Tasheilra Jones, from Wildwood, Fla., received the Women's Most
Valuable Indoor Track Athlete award. Jones' best performance in the 200
meter run came at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational with a time of
27.15 seconds. Her best time in the 400 meter run came at the same event
with a time of 1.09.91.



Glenn Flower - Dr. Tomesa Smith, Dean of Students at Wallace
State, presents the Men's Most Valuable Outdoor Track Athlete Award to
Glenn Fowler of Ocala, Fla.



Glenn Fowler, a hurdler from Ocala, Fla., was named the Men's Most
Valuable Outdoor Track Athlete. Fowler is ranked third in the NJCAA in
the men's 400-meter intermediate hurdles, and he recently signed a full
scholarship to the University of South Florida. His run of 52.72 seconds
this season in the hurdle event gave him the third spot at the Smokey
Mountain Twilight event. Fowler is also a member of the Lions' 4x100 and
4x400 meter relay teams which are both ranked No. 9 in the NJCAA.



Evan Lavin - Dr. Tomesa Smith, Dean of Students at Wallace
State, presents the Men's Most Valuable Indoor Field Athlete Award to
Evan Lavin of Knoxville, Tenn.


Evan Lavin, a shot put, javelin, hammer and discus thrower from
Knoxville, Tenn., got the award for the Men's Most Valuable Indoor Field
Athlete. Lavin is ranked in both the javelin throw and shot put events.
He holds the No. 6 spot in the NJCAA for the shot put with a throw of
52.11 inches at the Auburn Invitational. He also owns the No. 8 spot in
the javelin throw after a throw of 190.2 feet at the Auburn Springtime
Invitational.



Michael Chapa - Dr. Tomesa Smith, Dean of Students at Wallace
State, presents the Men's Most Valuable Cross Country Athlete Award to
Michael Chapa of Richmond, Va.



Men's Cross Country runner Michael Chapa, from Richmond, Va., received
the award for the Men's Most Valuable Cross Country Athlete. Chapa is
the No. 8 runner in NJCAA in the 1,500 meter run after running the event
in a time of 3:54.46 at the Auburn Invitational. He is also ranked No. 9
in the 5,000 meter run after posting a time of 15:14.46 at the
Mississippi Invitational.
