Wallace State Heads to National Tournament
ALABASTER, AL—The Wallace State Hanceville Lady Lions left for Plant City, Fla. near Tampa on Monday where they’ll play in the 2007 NJCAA Division I National Softball Tournament May 17-19.
Wallace State enters the NJCAA National Tournament seeded 13th with a 62-9 record. They play their first game on Thursday at 2 p.m. against No. 4 seed Miami-Dade College (41-20-1). Win or lose, they will play again at 8 p.m. on Thursday night.
The Lady Lions won the ACCC Softball Championship last week in Alabaster, advancing undefeated through the tournament. Earlier this season they defeated the No. 1 ranked team in the NJCAA, Chipola, at the Dothan Tournament.
Fans turned out to give the team a warm send off Monday morning outside the James C. Bailey Center at Wallace State. The Lady Lions will have will have practice time on site before the tournament begins on Thursday. A pre-tournament banquet will be held on Wednesday.
