Wallace Softball Player Named to National All-Tournament Team

HANCEVILLE, Ala.- Wallace State-Hanceville softball player Dandi Ammons
was named to the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association
Division I Softball ChampionshipAll-Tournament Team. Ammons is a
freshman catcher from Chelsea.

"This is a huge honor for Dandi. It's very difficult to make the team.
I'm very proud of her, and this honor shows that she is one of the best
in the nation," Wallace softball head coach Jayne Clem said.

Only three players on the national All-Tournament Team, including Dandi,
weren't from the two teams in the national championship game.

Ammons finished the national tournament with six singles, five RBIs, a
double and a run in four games. Wallace State placed in a tie for
seventh place.

"We were really pleased with how consistent she was for us in the
tournament," Clem said. "We could always count on her to get us a hit or
bring home some runs when we needed them."

Clem said, "She was a real leader for us this season. She wasn't the
most vocal player, but she worked hard in the classroom and had a great
work ethic. She controlled the game from behind the plate and called
almost every pitch. She really stepped up for us this season."

Ammons finished the season ranked No. 8 in the division in putouts per
game (5.574), and No. 10 in triples per game (.093).

Several four-year schools have already expressed an interest in Ammons
but, according to Clem, she plans to come back to Wallace and improve.

"She wants to be able to write her ticket to any school she wants, and
she knows she needs another strong season to do that," she said. "She's
a great kid and we're looking forward to a great sophomore season from
her. We're glad to be getting her back."
