Award Winning Photographer to Offer Workshops at Wallace State
HANCEVILLE, Ala.- Award winning photographer David Haynes will be teaching four workshops on photography at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville this summer. The Saturday workshops, which begin June 9 and run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each class meeting, will be offered through Wallace State's continuing education program.
The first class will focus on photographing north Alabama waterfalls. Participants will meet on the Wallace State-Hanceville campus at 8 a.m. and caravan to waterfalls in Blount County, Guntersville and DeKalb County where Haynes will instruct students on the art of photographing moving water.
On Saturday, June 23, the class will head to the Sipsey Wilderness. This workshop will concentrate on nature studies as students photograph landscapes, rock formations and other natural subject matter.
A trip to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens will be the focus of the next excursion on Saturday, July 7. Students will spend the day on close-up and nature photography of flowers and bugs and other scenery at the Gardens.
The final trip will be on Saturday, July 21, and will concentrate on photographing people outside. The class will travel to a location to do portraits of people in an outdoor environment. Haynes will be instructing students on techniques for lighting and posing outdoors.
Participants in these workshops should wear comfortable shoes and bring a lunch.
Haynes, a professional photographer for 25 years, works from his home in Blount Springs. He has experience in portrait, wedding, commercial and advertising photography, as well as photojournalism. His current focus is black and white portrait and fine art photography, guiding photography excursions and teaching photographic techniques.
He has been the recipient of more than 40 awards, and since leaving the newspaper business Haynes' images have been published in numerous publications and featured in gallery exhibitions in several cities. Some of his recent projects include photographs for a book on Cumberland Island, Ga., and Alabama 2000, The Millennium Project. He was awarded an artist fellowship by the Alabama State Council on the Arts for 2001-2002.
