Cosmetology Students Travel to NYC for Hairstyle Preview

Hanceville, AL-- Wallace State cosmetology students Keisha Rice of
Cullman and Sara Nelson of Birmingham and instructors Tracy Smith and
Shannon Garrett recently attended a hairstyling academy hosted by
renowned stylist Sam Brocato in New York City.

Brocato, a native of Louisiana, opened his first salon in 1976 followed
by two Academies of Hairdressing in Baton Rouge, La. He has been
honored as World Top Fashion Hairstylist by the World Hairdressing
Congress in London, Editorial Stylist of the Year at the North American
Hairstyling Awards, and was the 2005 recipient of the prestigious
Lifetime Achievement Award from the North American Hairstyling Awards.

"This was such a great experience for our students," said Smith. "Sam
Brocato is one of the best in the business and the opportunity to learn
from him was amazing."

Participants in the academy learned hairstyles from Brocato's "Libertine
Collection" as well as tips on how to successfully build a clientele
through effective communication skills.

"The haircuts from this collection were only shown to people at the
academy," said White-Smith. "They haven't been released to any salons
or stylists, so that was a real treat."

Wallace State offers a certificate in cosmetology as well as nail
technology and cosmetology instructor training options. A variety of
services are also offered to the public including hairstyling,
manicures, pedicures, microdermabrasion and light therapy.

semester classes begin August 17.
