         1:00p   No Man’s Land (2001, Bosnian, 98 min, R)
After various skirmishes, two wounded soldiers, one Bosnian and one Serb, confront each other in a trench in the no man's land between their lines. They wait for dark, trading insults and even finding some common ground; sometimes one has the gun, sometimes the other, sometimes both. Things get complicated when another wounded Bosnian comes to, but can't move because a bouncing landmine is beneath him. The two men cooperate to wave white flags, their lines call the UN (whose high command tries not to help), an English reporter shows up, a French sergeant shows courage, and the three men in no man's land may or may not find a way to all get along.  2002 Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film.

  3:00p Hero (2002, Chinese, 99 min, PG-13)
Master filmmaker Quentin Tarantino presents Hero -- starring martial arts legend Jet Li in a visually stunning martial arts epic where a fearless warrior rises up to defy an empire and unite a nation. With supernatural skill ... and no fear ... a nameless soldier (Jet Li) embarks on a mission of revenge against the fearsome army that massacred his people. Now, to achieve the justice he seeks, he must take on the empire's most ruthless assassins and reach the enemy he has sworn to defeat. Acclaimed by critics and honored with numerous awards, Hero was nominated for an Oscar for 2002 Best Foreign Language Film and a Golden Globe.

  6:00p Tango (1998, Spanish, 112 min, PG-13)
Oscar-winning cinematographer Vittorio Storano painted the backdrop for this film about a director with a passion for dance set in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When his wife leaves him, Mario begins work on a film about the tango. Mario must find the themes that will hold the film together, while simultaneously permitting his musicians and dancers the freedom of expression that is necessary to satisfy the tango-hungry Argentine audience. Lalo Schifrin provided the beautiful score for this film, which received an Oscar nomination for best foreign film.

  9:00p Run Lola Run (1998, German, 80 min, R)
A thrilling roller-coaster ride, Run Lola Run is an internationally acclaimed sensation that has been called the best German suspense and action film ever made. Set to a throbbing techno score, Run Lola Run is the story of a young woman, Lola, and her boyfriend Manni, who in the space of 20 minutes must come up with 100,000 deutsche marks to pay back a gangster who will kill Manni for losing the money. Lola, confronted with one obstacle after another, rides an emotional roller coaster in her high-speed efforts to help Manni. We follow Lola through every turn, every heartbreak, and every existential twist in this study of cause and effect, as she and Manni rush forward on a collision course with fate.

Rich, young, handsome Rahul is desperate to stop his mother and grandmother from interfering with his romantic life. But when they threaten to call off his sister's wedding unless he finds himself a nice Indian girl, he hires an escort, Sue, to pose as his fiancée. A painfully shy waitress working at a tiny Paris cafe, Amélie makes a surprising discovery and sees her life drastically changed for the better. From then on, Amélie dedicates herself to helping others find happiness ... in the most delightfully unexpected way. But will she have the courage to do for herself what she has done for others?

4:00p   A Time for Drunken Horses (2000, Iranian, 80 min, NR)
This film focuses on a boy named Ayoub and his brothers and sisters in the remote northern Iranian area of Kurdestan. When their father is killed by a mine, Ayoub, now 12 years old and the head of the household, is forced to take up where his father left off, smuggling goods across the Iraqi border to raise money for an operation his older brother desperately needs.  Negotiating landmines and dodging border guards, they struggle to get their overburdened mules through snow covered mountains by plying them with alcohol. This heart-wrenching film gives a glimpse into the lives of a people little known in the Western world. Winner of the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

But then, that life is threatened by World War II ... and Guido must rely on those very same strengths to save his beloved wife and son from an unthinkable fate.
