Checklist for Pell Grant and Stafford Loan Application Procedure

1. All students should apply for admission to Wallace State Community College and submit all official transcripts from high school and/or previous colleges or GED. Students must also qualify for Ability to Benefit based on entrance test scores. Financial Aid cannot be completed until a student has been admitted and has the Ability to Benefit. Students must declare a major/program to be eligible to receive grants and loans.
PELL GRANT
2. Apply online for 2006-2007 Federal Pell Grant at www.fafsa.ed.gov with 2005 federal income tax information. Students must also include other income such as social security benefits, disability and child support.
3. Seven business days after completing the Pell Grant application with pin signatures, come to the financial aid office. Bring you driver’s license, income taxes and all documents required to verify income to the Financial Aid Staff.
FEDERAL STAFFORD LOAN
4. Complete steps 1-3 to have a complete Pell Grant file even if you are not eligible to receive Pell Grant.
5. Complete Online Student Loan Entrance Counseling at KHEAA website
Counseling Steps:
A. The KHEAA web address is www.KHEAA.com
B. Click on the Online Student Entrance Counseling icon.
C. Read the information and answer the questions. Note: If you answer a question incorrectly, the website will not let you continue until you go back and get the correct answers.
D. Print your Confirmation Number on your 2006-2007 Loan Profile.
6. Return your completed Loan Profile will a signed award letter (from financial aid office)
7. Notification of loan certification will be mailed to you from KHEAA on the day your loan is certified by WSCC. (Your certification will be delayed until the Loan Office has confirmed that all transcripts have been received and that you have a complete Pell file in the Financial Aid Office.)
8. Electronically sign (e-sign) your Master Promissory Note (MPN)
Steps to e-sign MPN:
A. All loan recipients must electronically sign on the KHEAA website at www.kheaa.com. Go to “Quick Links”, “e-sign my MPN”, “Stafford Loans”.
B. To “activate” your pin number, go to www.pin.ed.gov. At this website, you can also request a duplicate pin if you have lost or forgotten you pin number. This is the same number that you used to electronically sign your Pell Grant form.

+ One change of loan funds/disbursements per academic year – must complete Change Form
+ Cancellations require a signed, dated note from loan holder – include SS NUMBER
PROCESS

Apply for 2006-07 Pell Grant – eligible or not. Request a Pin # if you do not have one.

Have a completed Pell Grant file in Financial Aid Office. All loan recipients must have a completed Pell Grant file.

New loan recipients at WSCC have to complete the Online Entrance Counseling at www.kheaa.com. Put the confirmation number on your Loan Profile.

Complete 06-07 Loan Profile with Entrance Counseling confirmation number. Review your WSCC Award Office – complete and sign before you return them to the Financial Aid Office.

Kheaa will mail you a letter the day your loan is certified that your loan is ready to e-Sign.

Electronically sign your Master Promissory Note (MPN). Any award adjustment will only be to comply with federal Title IV regulations.

BALANCE CHECKS
To obtain a balance check, course attendance must be verified by instructors and student must present a picture ID. All student record ‘holds’ must be cleared prior to checks being cut. The day and time for the initial balance check pickup will be posted in the Financial Aid Office and will be e-mailed through the Wallace State student e-mail.
