Wallace
State Equestrian Team earns title at University of Georgia
HANCEVILLE,
AL-- The Wallace State Equestrian Team was named the Reserve
High Point Team recently at their final competition
of the fall season. The event was held at the University
of Georgia arena.
The
University of Georgias competition was our most
rewarding so far, said Lee Adams, Wallace State
horsemanship director. We (Wallace State) are beginning
to make a name for ourselves in the intercollegiate horse
show world.
The
competition featured 175 riders from 11 colleges. Wallace
State riders earned two first place finishes and placed
in all their events.
Dorothy
OBara of Crane Hill took first place in the Hunt
Seat Walk/Trot. Jessica Hodnett of Frog Eye earned two
ribbons, placing first in Intermediate II Western Horsemanship
and fourth in Advanced Hunt Seat Walk/Trot/Canter.
In
addition to Hodnetts first place finish, Terri Clowdus
of Horton placed fourth and Leslie Brumleve of Cullman
placed sixth in Intermediate II Western Horsemanship.
Michele Martin of Cullman finished second in Beginner
Western Horsemanship. Brandon Stidham of Oneonta took
third place in Advanced I Western Horsemanship.
I
am so proud of the advancements of our team, said
Adams. The other competing teams are no longer wondering
who Wallace State is. We are the only two-year college
competing in our region, she said.
Other
teams in Wallace States region include Anderson
College, Auburn University, Augusta State University,
Berry College, Clemson University, Converse College, Erskine
College, Judson College, Lander College, Presbyterian
College, University of Georgia, and University of South
Carolina.
The
Wallace State equestrian team will start practicing for
spring after final exams. Their first competition of the
spring season is February 15 at the University of South
Carolina.
