Lions, Lady Lions Fall to Northwest Shoals

HANCEVILLE, AL-- The Wallace State Lions, playing on the road this week, dropped a non-conference game against Northwest Shoals 90-82.

   Blake Matthews led the Lions scoring 26 points and pulling down eight boards in Tuesday’s game against Northwest Shoals. Other Lions in double figures included Milton Nance with 14 points and Dayton Miller with 10 points. Freddie Copeland and Chad Bull each scored eight points and had eight rebounds. Mario McGrady scored seven points and had seven rebounds. Northwest Shoals leading scorer was Timothy Kelley with 21 points.

   The Lions are off until January 4 when they take on Motlow State at home.

   In a game that went in similar fashion to the men’s game, the Wallace State Lady Lions were edged out 86-77 at Northwest Shoals in their non-conference game. Devita Cole, with 15 points and eight rebounds, led the Lady Lions’ effort. Amber Terrell scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. Mallorie Kerby came close to a double-double, scoring nine points and getting 10 rebounds. The Lady Patriots top performer for the evening was Sheree Thompson who scored 20 points and had 13 rebounds.

   The Lady Lions split at the Okaloosa-Walton Tournament this past weekend, winning 87-75 in their game against Chipola and posting a 92-75 loss against Okaloosa-Walton Community College.

   In the Chipola game, Mallorie Kerby led the team with 14 points. Amber Terrell had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Tara Pascley also scored 13 points and Sumer Vaughn scored 12 to round out the Lady Lions in double figures.

   Melissa Bartlett was the Lady Lions leading scorer against Okaloosa-Walton with 15 points, her season high after missing the first three games of the season due to commitments to the Wallace State volleyball team’s post season schedule. She also had six rebounds in the game. Lori Smith had 11 assists, three steals and three points.

   The Lady Lions play Gadsden State at Gadsden next Thursday and then are off until January 4 when they also play Motlow at home.
