Lady
Lions Win Big at Gadsden State
HANCEVILLE,
AL-- The Lady Lions picked up a huge come-from-behind
win Thursday night at Gadsden State, evening their overall
record to 4-4.
Two
of the Lady Lions non-starting freshman players
put up key performances that helped the Lady Lions pull
out an 88-83 win in a game that went to overtime.
It
was an exciting game, said Wallace State head coach
Larry Slater.
The
Lady Lions were down 13 points with seven minutes to go
in the game.
Shannon
Brown, one of our freshmen, had good week at practice
and I decided to put her in with seven minutes to go.
She hit two threes right off to put us within six,
Slater said.
The
Lady Lions fought hard and went ahead close to the end
of the game but Gadsden evened it up just before the final
buzzer to send the game to overtime.
We really took charge in overtime,
Slater said. Brittney Freeman, another freshman,
scored five points in overtime. She and Shannon really
stepped up big.
Amber
Terrell, Melissa Barlett and Sumer Vaughn all ended the
night in double figures for the Lady Lions. Terrell had
a double-double, scoring 18 points and picking up 14 rebounds.
Barlett connected for 12 points and Vaughn scored 10 points.
Gadsden
States leading scorer was Brandi Roberts with 23
points.
The
Lady Lions play their next game at home on Jan.4 against
Motlow State. They take the court at 5:30 p.m. and the
mens game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
