Wallace St. Lady Lions Win Region XXII DI Volleyball Tournament
The Wallace State Lady Lions defeated Faulkner State in the AJCCC Division I Volleyball Tournament finals Tuesday to become the Division I State Champions. Wallace State took the first two games of the match to win 2-0 (30-22, 30-18). Contributing to the win, Wallace State's Amy Boyles had 11 kills, Melissa Bartlett had five, and Mallorie Kerby and Kniambi Jones each had four. Jill Jenkins led the team in aces with five; she had 10 assists. Emily League and Miranda Shipp had two aces, and Andrea Akers and Crystal Smith added one each. Leading in assists, Lindsey Davis had 12. Jones had 3 blocks and League had two. Faulkner State won their match against Gadsden State earlier Tuesday to advance to the finals. Gadsden State took third place with a win over Southern Union, who finished fourth. Lawson State was fifth. The Lady Lions will compete in the NJCAA National Tournament in Overland Park, KS November 19-22.
