Wallace State Oneonta Campus Centers Hosting Open House August 15

Oneonta, AL — Wallace State Community College’s Oneonta Academic and Applied Technology Centers will host an open house on Tuesday, Aug 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will offer tours and provide information and opportunities to talk with faculty and staff about classes offered at the sites.

“We welcome anyone from Oneonta and the surrounding areas to visit with us on Aug. 15,” said Lauren Wilson, Director of the Oneonta Center. “We will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about attending classes here in Blount County, to help you with applying to the college, register for classes, applying for financial aid, and more.”

Classes for the Fall 2023 semester will begin Aug. 18, with registration continuing through Aug. 24.

The Oneonta Academic Center, located at 101 1st Ave. West houses academic programs, with offerings in Art, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Services, English, History, Mathematics, Music, Nursing, Orientation and Psychology. Free Adult Education and ESL classes are also available at the WSCC Oneonta Academic Center.

This will be the first semester that Nursing classes will be offered at the Oneonta Academic Center. A full cohort of 25 students will begin taking classes that make up the first three semesters of the traditional associate degree program. At the end of three semesters, the students will be able to sit for the practical nursing licensure exam and can seamlessly transfer to the Hanceville campus to complete the associate degree in Nursing.

Art and Music are other new options being offered this fall at the Oneonta Academic Center. Two Drawing I classes will be offered; one is a regular full term and the other is a Mini Term starting Oct. 19. Music Appreciation will be offered as a full-term course.

Programs offered at the Oneonta Applied Technologies Center include Machine Tool Technology; Mechatronics, Electronics and Robotics; and Welding. The Applied Technologies Center is located at 728 2nd Ave. SE.

The Wallace State Lifelong Learning program WaLLi will begin offering activities at the Oneonta Academic Center this fall as part of a pilot program to gauge interest. Open to residents 50 and older, the program will offer a few workshops and classes and a day trip during the fall semester. Representatives of the WaLLi program will be on hand at the Aug. 15 open house to sign up participants and for more information. The registration fee for the Oneonta program for the Fall 2023 semester is $15. Additional charges apply for certain classes and trip.
