Hanceville, AL — Wallace State Community College is hosting College Night on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. to provide future students and parents with the information they will need for students to enroll in college.

College Night activities will take place in the James C. Bailey Center. Attendees can choose from sessions on Financial Aid, Admissions and Advising, Scholarships, and Dual Enrollment will be offered during the two-hour event.

During these 30-minute sessions, attendees will learn what is needed to complete the college application and registration process and talk to advisors about college placement, choosing majors, scheduling classes, and developing an academic plan. Financial Aid staff will introduce attendees to the financial aid process and how to apply for financial aid. A session on scholarships will provide information on scholarships available through the College and Future Foundation and the deadlines to apply for those opportunities. A session on dual enrollment will also be held for high school students interested in taking college classes.

Representatives will also share information about various student services and programs of study in the Academic/STEM, Health Science and Applied Technology divisions. Wallace State offers more than 200 degree and certificate options within these divisions.

“Now is the perfect time to take advantage of an event like this before scholarship applications are due,” said Stacey Sivley, Director of Recruiting and Dual Enrollment. “Starting early on these processes benefits the students in the long run and will have them ready to register for and start classes with hopefully fewer frustrations.”

Campus tours will also be offered for those wishing to take advantage of those.

“We invite anyone who is thinking about applying to Wallace State in the future to attend our College Night event,” said Kristen Holmes, Vice President for Students. “This is a great opportunity for both students and parents to get an idea of the steps in applying to the college, applying for financial aid or scholarships and learn about the programs we offer.”

Wallace State was recently recognized among the top community colleges in the nation by the Aspen Institute, and is an Achieving the Dream Leader College, Military Friendly Institution, National Center for Excellence in Nursing and Cyber Defense, and nationally recognized as a Caring Campus.  These accolades reflect not only the care students receive from faculty and staff but also the outstanding student outcomes and rates of success students achieve.

“That is why we are routinely the preferred community college among high school seniors taking the ACT,” Holmes said.

The college is offering up to three three-credit hour scholarships for those attending the event, to be used in 2024. Attendees will also receive a Wallace State t-shirt.

Attendees are asked to RSVP in advance at www.wallacestate.edu/openhouse. Only those who attend College Night are eligible to win the scholarship.
