Wheeler named to NJCAA DI Softball All-America Teams

Laura Leigh WheelerHanceville, AL — Wallace State Community College athlete Laura Leigh Wheeler has added one more honor to her list of achievements this year. Wheeler, of Sulligent, was named to the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Softball All-America Teams – Third Team.

This award follows recognition by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as a Division I All-American and to the NFCA NJCAA Division I South Region Team. The latter honor she shared with pitcher Katie Simon of Athens.

Wheeler scored 58 runs and had 61 hits in 50 games for the Lions this season. She doubled 22 times, hit 17 home runs and 59 RBI. Her batting average for the year was .389, with a slugging percentage of .892.

She was also named a Player of the Week by the Alabama Community College Conference for the week of April 22 and earned a place on the ACCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2024 semester.
