Hanceville, AL — The NJCAA has awarded Wallace State Community College a $2,000 grant through the NJCAA Foundation to support the development of men’s and women’s soccer program.

The Alabama Community College Conference has begun to introduce soccer as a new sporting opportunity, and Wallace State intends to join the ranks as soon as sufficient conference and division competition is available.

The college had a successful men’s program more than a decade ago, but for a number of years before closing the program there was no in-state competition. Now, the college looks forward not only to resuming men’s soccer but also to adding women’s soccer.

"Wallace State has always been a leader in athletics in the Alabama Community College Conference, with all put two of its teams advancing to national competition in the postseason. We look forward to reintroducing soccer as support for this sport grows across the conference,” said Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Karolewics.

As one of its main objectives, the NJCAA Foundation strives to provide new opportunities to student-athletes and member colleges across the association. "Through the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant, the NJCAA Foundation is creating opportunities for member colleges to expand and develop sports offerings," stated Brian Luckett, NJCAA Foundation Executive Director. "Athletics at the two-year level continue to grow and progress, resulting in student-athletes being afforded more significant development opportunities athletically and academically."

Since 2018, the NJCAA Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization, has funded scholarships, community programs, and national awards for the association's student-athletes, member colleges, and administrators.
