The baseball field at Wallace State Community College’s James C. Bailey Stadium has received new synthetic turf. A ribbon cutting will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend, with a special invitation extended to former players. There will be free admission and free popcorn for the event. The Lions will take on Northeast Mississippi Community College in double header after the ribbon cutting.

Hanceville, Ala. — Wallace State Community College will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 1 to celebrate the beautiful, new synthetic turf baseball field installed at James C. Bailey Stadium.

“The installation of turf represents a significant step forward,” said Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Karolewics. “This investment not only enhances the safety and performance of our student-athletes, but it also demonstrates our commitment to providing athletic facilities of the highest quality. We are excited about the opportunities this upgrade will bring to our campus community and look forward to many successful seasons ahead.”

The ribbon-cutting for the baseball field is scheduled to be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 at the baseball stadium.

“This field is a dream come true,” said Wallace State Baseball Coach Randy Putman, who is in his 36th season at WSCC. “We’re extremely excited about having the new field. I firmly believe that this makes the campus stand out even more and it’s a beautiful setting for baseball. I would encourage everyone to attend games and enjoy the stadium and the new field.”

Because high-quality synthetic turf provides excellent shock absorption and traction, consistent ball roll and ball bounce, and reduced maintenance and downtime due to rain, it is becoming a popular choice for fields at all levels.

A separate ribbon-cutting will be held at Wallace State’s newly turfed Pete Harris Softball Field at Bobby McCrackin Stadium on Saturday, March 8 at 11:30 a.m.

The community is welcome to attend both events, with a special invitation extended to former players for the Lions. Admission to the games will be free each day, with free popcorn offered as well. Campus Ministries will host a cookout for Wallace State alumni, family and friends at each game.
