Wallace State Men’s Basketball Opens Season with Two Wins at Motlow State Classic

Jaeden Rush scored 16 points and had seven rebounds in the Lions season opener against Albany State at the Motlow State Classic.

The Wallace State men's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with an impressive weekend at the Motlow State Classic, picking up wins over Albany Tech and Andrews College to start 2-0.

In Friday's 77-71 victory over Albany Tech, the Lions built a 30-24 halftime lead and matched the Titans point-for-point in the second half to secure the win. Trey Knight led the way with 21 points, connecting on 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc. Jaeden Rush added 16 points and seven rebounds while knocking down four three-pointers. Zay Madden contributed 12 points and six rebounds, Hayden Shedrick chipped in nine points and seven boards, and Tyson Barrett added eight points and seven rebounds. Austin Davenport anchored the inside with a game-high 11 rebounds.

Wallace State kept rolling on Saturday, defeating Andrews College 97-89 in a high-scoring matchup. The Lions led 46-41 at halftime and stretched their advantage to double digits midway through the second half before holding off a late run from the Tigers. Tyson Barrett led the charge with a double-double performance, posting 18 points and 12 rebounds. Kylen Clark and Zay Madden each scored 15 points, with Madden adding seven rebounds. Knight once again filled the stat sheet with 13 points, eight assists, and five rebounds, while Rush tallied 11 points, five assists, and three steals. Sawyer Griffin added 10 points off the bench, and Shedrick finished with eight.

Wallace State (2-0) will look to keep its early momentum going when the Lions travel to Marion Military Institute on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
