Wallace State Women Roll Past Southern Crescent Tech with Dominant 96-20 Victory

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State women’s basketball continued its strong start to the season Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Southern Crescent Technical College 96-20 at Traditions Bank Arena. The Lions opened the game with a stifling defensive performance, outscoring SCTC 27-0 in the first quarter and allowing their first basket more than 12 minutes into the contest.

Wallace State extended its lead to 51-5 by halftime, controlling every facet of the game. The Lions shot 51% from the field and knocked down 20 of 39 attempts from beyond the arc, finishing at a 51% clip from long distance. Their defensive pressure was equally impressive, holding SCTC to just 26% shooting while forcing 22 turnovers, including 16 steals.

The Lions also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Tigers 43-18 with 21 offensive rebounds, and displayed strong ball movement, recording 29 assists on 36 made baskets.

Kam Sanders led Wallace State with 15 points along with five rebounds and four assists, pacing a balanced offensive effort. Idaysia Mercer finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and dishing out 12 assists in an impressive floor-general performance. Taylor Smith and Heather Tetro also added 12 points each, with Smith contributing seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, while H. Tetro added two assists and two steals.

Leah Childress scored 11 points and tallied two assists, while Bailey Tetro added nine points and two assists. Sinaya Gibson delivered a strong effort on the glass with seven points, nine rebounds, and two steals.

With the win, Wallace State improves to 4-0 on the season. Through four games, the Lions are averaging 77 points per game while holding opponents to just 34 points per contest, establishing themselves early as one of the top defensive teams in the conference.

Wallace State returns to action Thursday, hosting Northeast Mississippi at Traditions Bank Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
