Wallace State Volleyball Attempting to Set Attendance Record

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State Community College will attempt to set a record for attendance at a college volleyball game in Alabama on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The Lions will take on Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) rival Bevill State at 5 p.m., at Traditions Bank Arena in Tom Drake Coliseum. As the Bears are one of the Lions’ closest rivals, WSCC Coach Randy Daniel hopes supporters of both teams will come out in force to cheer for their teams and help set a record. The number to beat is 3,800 from a 2024 game between the University of Alabama and Texas.

“We want to do what we can to grow volleyball and get people out to support our volleyball team,” said Daniel. “It’s one of the fastest growing sports for women, and we want to do anything we can to get volleyball noticed more.”

Daniel said they have invited athletes from Wallace State’s 14 other athletic teams to attend and create team spirit surrounding the event. Area high school teams have also been invited. Daniel said he would be available after the game to speak to any high school players who are interested in learning more about playing volleyball at the collegiate level. 

Wally, the Wallace State mascot will be on hand for photographs with fans.

All Wallace State sporting events are free and open to the public. 

Daniel has been the head coach of Wallace State Volleyball for 20 years, starting this season with a record of 722-152. He is the current ACCC leader in total wins and conference titles (14). He has been named District L/M Coach of the Year from 2010 to 2023 and ACCC Coach of the Year eight times since 2008.
