Veterinary Assisting
Begin preparing for a career in animal care with the Veterinary Assisting course at Wallace State Community College. This tuition-free Skills for Success course introduces students to the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to assist veterinary professionals in clinics, animal hospitals, and other animal care settings.
About the Course
Students learn the fundamentals of veterinary assisting, including animal handling
and restraint, exam room procedures, medical terminology, infection control, patient
care, safety practices, and communication with veterinary teams and pet owners. The
course provides an introduction to the daily responsibilities of a veterinary assistant
and prepares students for entry-level opportunities in animal care.
This is a hybrid course, combining online instruction with an in-person lab that provides hands-on training and practical application of veterinary assisting skills.
Admission Requirements
This course is offered at no cost. Participants must be 16 years of age or older to
enroll in this course. No diploma or GED required.
