North
Central Alabama Adult Education Program
General
Educational Development (GED) Classes
The GED test covers five subject areas:
Writing, Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics.
Our course of study and materials are designed specifically
to prepare you to pass the exam and get your high school
equivalency diploma.
English
as a Second Language (ESL)
Due to the growing population of non-English-speaking
people in our area, we are now offering ESL classes. We
teach English skills by using real life situations, like
going to the doctors office or filling out a job
application.
 Free
Materials
All of our classes and materials are
free. We are funded by the Department of Postsecondary
Education, Adult Education Program.
Free
GED Practice Test
We offer free GED practice testing.
If you have recently withdrawn from school, you may want
to take the GED practice test before scheduling the regular
test. The practice test will tell you if there are any
areas that you need to work on before you take the exam.
We offer the exam as a courtesy to students enrolled in
our classes to gauge whether or not they are ready for
the exam.
Individualized
Instruction
You work at your own pace on the specific
skills that you need to improve. Our instructors will
give you a skills test to evaluate your skills in reading,
spelling, language, and math. The test allows our instructors
to identify the specific skills that you need to work
on. There is no pass or fail on this test. It simply allows
us to identify your individual needs and design a course
of study just for you. This approach saves you time by
not having you work on skills that you have already mastered.
Once we have identified a course of study, you will be
given materials to study at your own pace. There is no
classroom lecture to listen to or an allotted time to
finish the course. The instructor will guide you through
your course of study and help you whenever you have problems
with the material. Individualized instruction and testing can also be helpful for students who want to brush up on their skills in preparation for COMPASS testing.
Quality
of Instruction
All of our teachers are experienced,
certified professionals who are dedicated to seeing learners
achieve their goals. We use up-to-date high quality study
materials. Most of our classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art
computers that have programs designed to help learners
prepare for the GED test.
