Stamps, Ellis named ACCC Runners of Week; WSCC cross country travels to Huntingdon on Saturday
HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s cross country teams compete at Huntingdon College
on Saturday after each finished 7th respectively in the 16th annual Foothills Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State on Sept. 3.
Wallace State was the lone community college competing in the annual event.
Raleigh Stamps is the Alabama Community College Conference’s (ACCC) Men’s Runner of
the Week after the sophomore from Rogers High School recorded the Lions’ top finish
with a 16:52.86 in the 5K.
Sophomore Jikori James finished right behind Stamps at 35th with a 16:54.22 and freshman Kayd Hightower was 36th with a 16:55.67.
Sophomore Dakota Sheppard placed 47th overall, clocking in with a 17:10.03, and Mason Worrell was 53rd with a 17:21.18.
Joseph Arriaga (17:40.53), Andrew Wrenn (17:42.93), Jonathan Collett (18:21.56), Dylan
Andrews (18:28.41), Cole Akridge (18:30.44) and Dave Hubert (18:31.72) rounded out
the field for Wallace State, which is ranked 7th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NJCAA Division II
rankings.
Wallace State’s men placed higher than the University of the South, Huntingdon, Alabama
State, Birmingham-Southern, LaGrange College and Shorter University.
Auburn University won the men’s meet.
In the women’s 4K, Macie Ellis had the best finish for Wallace State, registering
a 16:07.19. Ellis placed 32nd overall, earning her ACCC recognition as the Women’s Runner of the Week, and the
Lady Lions catapulted up to the 2nd-ranked team in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
NJCAA Division II rankings.
Danielle Akridge was next for the Lady Lions, clocking in with a 16:29.08 for 43rd overall. Aylin Vega was right on her heels, registering a 16:32.26.
Wallace State sophomore Ally Amerson completed the top 50, finishing with a 16:46.40.
Jaycee Biffle (16:56.01), Trinity Roberts (18:09.83) and Alexis Crisp (18:34.15) rounded
out the Wallace State field.
As a group, the Lady Lions outlasted the University of the South, Alabama State, West
Georgia, Alabama A&M, Huntingdon, Tuskegee and Shorter.
Both Wallace State teams are three-time defending ACCC champions.
