Wallace State Softball Wins 8-4 in Game 2, Sweeps Southern Union in Doubleheader
Hanceville, AL — The Wallace State softball team completed a sweep of Southern Union Community College in a conference doubleheader on March 16, 2024, with an 8-4 victory in Game 2 at the Bobby McCracken Softball Stadium.
The Wallace State Lions showcased their prowess once again, maintaining their winning momentum from the first game. With consistent batting and solid defense, they secured their second triumph of the day.
Leading the charge for Wallace State was infielder Jessie Taylor, whose stellar performance at the plate drove in four crucial runs, including two home runs. Taylor's powerful hits proved to be pivotal in widening the gap between the two teams and solidifying her team's lead.
Joining Taylor was outfielder Brandy Phillips, who contributed three hits and an RBI. Phillips' consistent batting throughout the game added to Wallace State's offensive firepower, keeping the pressure on Southern Union's defense.
Pitcher Lily Boswell delivered a commendable performance on the mound for Wallace State, allowing just four runs while striking out five batters over five innings of work. Boswell's poise under pressure and effective pitching helped contain Southern Union's attempts to rally and ensured the team's victory.
