Wallace State Crushes Calhoun in Thrilling Comeback Victory

Wallace State Community College’s men’s basketball team secured a nail-biting 73-72 victory over Calhoun Community College in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at the Traditions Bank Arena. The Lions, now 14-2 on the season, displayed resilience and composure, rallying from a halftime deficit to clinch the win.
 
Authur JohnsonSophomore guard Kendarius Anderson delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 22 points, including three three-pointers and nine clutch free throws. Fellow sophomore Authur Johnson added 18 points and six assists, showcasing his versatility on both ends of the court.
 
Wallace State trailed 33-29 at halftime but stormed back with a strong second half, outscoring Calhoun 44-39. Sophomore forward Christian Thompson anchored the defense with 14 rebounds, while also contributing 10 points. The Lions' ability to convert at the free-throw line, shooting 79.2 percent, proved decisive in the game’s closing moments.
 
Key contributions came from freshman guard Sawyer Griffin, whose two timely three-pointers in the second half helped fuel the Lions' comeback and energize the home crowd.
 
“This was a team effort, and I’m incredibly proud of how our players kept their focus,” said first-year Head Coach Faron Key.
 
Adding to the electric atmosphere was Wallace State’s bustling student section, who cheered passionately and celebrated every big play with orange and blue boom sticks, creating an unforgettable home-court advantage.
 
Calhoun Community College provided stiff competition but Wallace State’s balanced attack and timely shooting sealed the win.
